Who we are - contributors to this issue
  Caroline Collett

Co-founder – Magnificent Me and author of 'Five books that changed my life'

This issue our survey is all about heroines.  My personal iconic trinity are actress Lauren Bacall, singer Patti Smith and artist Frida Kahlo; all women with an exceptionally honed individual style and an interesting masculine/feminine play-off, from Bacall's gorgeous deep voice, to Patti's androgynous monochrome styling, to Frida Kahlo's refusal to be any less of a larger-than-life character than the male artists around her.  Inspirational!
Veronica Simpson

Co-Founder – Magnificent Me

I love being a parent but one of the shocks of this role is the realisation that children copy you. You have to be clear about what values and aspirations you communicate to them through your own behaviour. Role models: we all need them. The reason we launched Magnificent Me was to celebrate all the real, brave,
interesting, clever and creative women we know who live their lives with integrity. We need an antidote to the universal media diet of celebrities and their often shallow, self-absorbed and sensationalist lives. For my kids Oliver and Lottie, I want to show them the best of what women can be. So when you answer our survey, give us ordinary/extroardinary heroines
too – your mum, your grandma or your next door neighbour – because, as far as life lessons go, they’re where it’s at.

Cate Langmuir

As editor-in-chief of a small publishing company, I’d be pushed to come up with a reader profile I have not produced a magazine for.  One day I might be interviewing a Scottish comedian, the next I could be checking out UK Asian entrepreneurs, which is how I met Sital Punja, the woman who makes it her business to turn old saris into evening dresses to die for. I’ve always loved magazines and much like the founders of Magnificent Me, can’t bear the dross that goes into so many of them, so I’m very pleased to be on board. I live in the new Fulham (not to mention baby-buggy capital) of south London, East Dulwich, and when I’m not reading and writing, I like singing, swimming and yoga, listening to the Archers, getting back to Scotland… but most weeks you’ll find me out and about with friends or family, making the most of this most excellent of capital cities.

She finally escaped to the seaside in 1995 and hasn't looked back. Well, maybe just to make sure they're not coming to fetch her!

Jane Fraser

Jane Fraser lives in Milan, where she heads up MTV's live events team, travelling the globe to record live music and work on events such as the European Music Awards.  A classically-trained musician herself, Jane was taught by the legendary Fanny Waterman and even worked briefly as a pianist, playing on request for the rich wife of an even richer Hollywood film producer!  Something of a nomad, Jane is never happier than when travelling, meeting new people and facing new challenges, from how to make the perfect cup of Italian coffee to working with Quincy Jones to produce a five-hour show at  Rome's Circus Maximus when his American production company pulled out!

Jane Peyton

Jane Peyton is an author, journalist, public speaker and retail consultant.
