London Bulgarian Choir

’Music that gives voice to the heart and heart to the voice,’ is how London Bulgarian Choir leader Dessislava Stefanova describes the choral music of her homeland. Luckily for the choir members – at least two thirds of whom are not Bulgarian – she is willing to share it. For the last seven years they’ve been meeting in the basement of the Bulgarian Embassy, and practising these weird, wonderful and cathartic harmonies and thrilling ‘open throat’ vocal technique. Their skills were honed last year when they competed in the BBC Radio3 Choir of the Year competition, where they won the ‘open’ category and made it through to the finals. Judge Eugene Skeef said it was ‘the most sophisticated physical expression of song I've ever experienced.'

Their Christmas Concert this year will be on December 14th, at the Conway Hall, 25 Red Lion Square, London WC1R 4RL. Check out full gig details and some sounds on www.londonbulgarianchoir.co.uk

Alice's Bear Shop

The Real Alice's Bear Shop is situated in Lyme Regis in Dorset on the English south coast.  The shop was founded and is run by artist Rikey Austin, who created the shop's collection of bears, together with Bear Artist Jo Farmer.  Stories that Rikey invented for her three sons eventually became a series of books ('Tales from Alice's Bear Shop), based on the adventures of twelve characters, which was first published in 2004.  The characters then came to life as the RUSS' Alice's Bear Shop Collection.

Sister of the Spangle

Sister of the Spangle (SoS) was formed in 2005, when Veronica Simpson was asked to create a tiara for a friend's wedding. A trip to the Bead Shop in Covent Garden resulted in a serious addiction to playing with semi precious gems, which has been turned into a hugely enjoyable (and barely profitable) sideline.

Clusters of stones are hand picked for the resonance of their colour combinations, and turned into into delicate gem bracelets, informal (!) tiaras, chandelier-style earrings and charm bracelets.  SoS sells through gift fairs and the Black Swan Arts Centre in Frome. The addiction was soon transmitted to Veronica's sister Clare, who creates dramatic necklaces from faceted Swarovski crystals. So they truly are 'sisters of the spangle'.
