In Issue 1 of Magnificent Me, we looked at the current handbag craze and tried to make some sense of it through your views and habits. The results - from as far afield as Malaga, Exeter, Hong Kong, London and Napier (New Zealand!) - made interesting, if schizophrenic, reading and you can read all about it at the bottom of this, our second issue survey.
We've chosen this time to ask you about the heroines and icons you look up to and who have influenced your life. We want to establish the role models for modern women – from across the spectrum and throughout the ages.
We know who ours are and we can't wait to hear about yours!s.
The results will be published in issue 3 at the end of February 2008 (we're still quarterly for now, but hoping to get more frequent in the future!)
RESULTS FROM MAGNIFICENT ME SURVEY ISSUE 1
WOMEN AND THEIR HANDBAGS
The super-sizing of both handbags and their price tags has been one of the fashion world’s most extraordinary phenomena of the last few years. Ever since, in fact, demand for the Fendi baguette hit the stratosphere and the term
‘It bag’ came to embody this new and extreme consumer desire, speedily exploited by every major brand around…
But do real women feel the heat of the desire the big brands would like them to? Have handbags taken over from perfume and shoes as the most desirable accessory of all? Do they aspire to own the new bag of the season? And, if so, how much will they pay to get their hands on it?
The answers, frankly, are a mixed bag…
Having surveyed our readers to get to the heart of handbag hysteria, this is what we found…
Yes, women love their handbags. So much so that they own on average fourteen handbags each. Not a single reader was handbagless and only one out of all those surveyed owned less than five handbags. One even admitted to owning a total of forty-three bags…
But, on the whole, we like ‘em cheap. The average amount spent on a bag was just £33, although almost all those surveyed had at least one bag that was hugely more expensive than all the rest. The average top-priced bag cost £182 – although some women admitted spending as much as £700 on a single item.
